Napier Intermediate School - Napier - 2 kW

Napier Intermediate, in the super sunny Hawke's Bay is the perfect place for learning about solar energy. Students here have been working with Schoolgen since 2008. They carry out audits of the school's energy use, have created solar ovens on EOTC trips, workshopped with solar kits and participated in the Mean Greenhouse Competition.

In 2015 the student team implemented an incentive plan to reward classes and houses that were demonstrating energy conservation practices. Points were awarded by the student team that counted towards Principal's Award points. The change in the teachers habits might have been the biggest impact!

In 2016 the BoT approved additional funding for expansion of the solar array. The student team in 2017 will be involved in the research and design for how this is set out around the school buildings and how students are able to access the fantastic data for their learning.
