Whakatane Intermediate School - 2 kW

Here at Whakatane Intermediate School in the Bay of Plenty we are lucky to have a specialist Environmental Science Classroom which delivers lessons in all aspects of environmental learning to all students every year. 

Sustainability and Kaitiakitanga (which means showing care & respect for all that is around us) are important aspects of this learning.

Being in Whakatane - arguably NZ's sunniest town! - meant we leapt at the opportunity to become part of Genesis Energy’s Schoolgen Programme and to receive a free 2 kilowatt photovoltaic system on our Enviro-Class. 

In addition to being fully Water Sustainable with our roof water collection system the 8 panel solar array makes our Enviro Class fully Energy Sustainable as well.

We are committed to empowering all of our students with the knowledge and learning necessary to enable them to make an environmental difference wherever they go, at home, school, or in their community. 

We believe that our students are the future of our town, and witnessing their enthusiasm, willingness and passion to make a difference is inspiring!
