Pukehou school is a small country school in Central Hawke's Bay. We have 90 children and are very proud that we are a Green- Gold Enviro school. We have had an environmental focus since 2003 and integrate Education for Sustainability into all our curriculum as much as possible. We recycle, have a worm farm, a school pig and very soon our own hens. We have also won many awards for our Environmental efforts including, The Norsewear Environmental award and The Regional Council Environmental award. We have a very active Green Team made up of students from Year 1 to Year 8.

Last year the senior class entered the IPENZ energy Audit competition . When the opportunity came to apply for the Solar Panels it seemed a logical move to do so as the students had a deep understanding of the energy consumption of our school. The idea of widening their horizons to gain a better understanding of the global issue of energy consumption and how we can manage it in a more sustainable way was exciting.

We are sure that our students will gain a deeper understanding of our dependence on energy and its impact on the environment from the installation of the panels and we will understand how we can use more sustainable ways to manage our energy dependence and use. Thank you Genesis Energy for giving us this amazing opportunity. Our whole community is very excited..
